A SPACE TO REJUVENATE
Here is a stunning holiday home in Cornwall. A luxury holiday cottage near Padstow in North Cornwall close to the beach and with amazing views out to sea and to Trevose Head with its iconic lighthouse.
This has been our getaway home and love for the last 24 years. In 2017 we completely rebuilt it to the highest specification with a detail that will be seen at every corner. Hours of poring over plans and enlisting the support of friends and neighbours and a brilliant architect and builder, between us we’ve made something very special.
You can lie in bed and look at the sea. There are 4 double bedrooms, 5 bathrooms, central reception room, open plan living room, dining space, Siematic kitchen with large island unit and spa, with a jacuzzi and steam room.
Although we have underfloor heating throughout, we also have an ingenious two-sided, glass fireplace, to add warmth and vision when it’s very cold outside. It takes us round to the sitting area with a corner sofa and Smart TV. Sliding folding doors can be opened to access the terrace at the front.
Close by is the dining space with seating for 8 but could take 10, so dinner parties are easy. The Siematic kitchen was bought and driven over from Germany designed by our son. It flows perfectly from the larder cupboard and the large Miele fridge freezer past the Miele induction hob, teppanyaki plate, combination steam oven and second roasting oven to the dishwasher and warming oven. Boiling water and drinking water is on tap. The island unit is a marble mural of the sea, sand and sky and there is counter seating for 4.
ENJOYING SIMPLICITY
Cornish Soul is furnished for all to feel at home by offering a combination of space and cosiness. It’s a seaside haven now complete for your enjoyment and relaxation, gathering and rest. This is the view from the master bedroom.
When you drive up you turn in to the resin bound drive through wooden, dog proof (in theory) gates that nestle between the Cornish stone walls. A trio of large granite steps leads to the front door and you enter to the centre of the house, which is built in the form of an H. To the left is the open plan living, dining, cooking space and to the right, the stairs, the downstairs bedroom, spa and utility room. This central area has a 3 metre sofa and it’s where we have our work out mats and weights for gentle stretches and exercise. Most exercise of course is taken when we walk the bays and cliffs of this part of the North Cornwall coast so don’t forget the walking boots.
The landing is open and light with two Velux Cabrio windows looking down over the beach to the sea and Trevose Head. On the other side is a glass bottomed balcony looking over the fields behind. Beside this is a basin with hot tap and a unit where we keep painting and art materials. It’s ideal if you want a hot drink in the early morning and don’t fancy going downstairs. The comms cabinet is up here as well.
The metal and glass stairs were specially commissioned and brought over from Ireland to exact specification and are light but strong. We put a Roger Oates carpet runner on them and it adds a gentle touch of colour.
Outside the back is terraced and is a sun trap for sunbathing and outdoor eating with gas BBQ. The front lawn leads down to the track and it’s a short walk to the beach. Dog friendly it’s a place where memories are made.
The master bedroom ensuite stretches from front to rear. A super comfortable super king size bed where you can lie and look at the sea is at one end and at the other is the bath and washbasins in a flow of Corian. We also have a large walk in shower with controls at one end so you don’t get wet when it turns on. The glass-covered dressing table sits against the floor to ceiling, lace-tiled wall, adjacent to a gorgeous, pink, oval ottoman.
The corresponding space on the other side of the H is made up of two back to back ensuites, both with super king beds and bathrooms with a bath and separate shower. One looks towards the sea, the other to the fields. Both have desks and hairdryers
One of the bedrooms is on the ground floor and benefits from a terrace bordered by grasses. The associated bathroom has a large walk in shower and doubles as a guest cloak room. The utility room with special hose tap to help with dog washing has a second outside door and we’ve left a space for dog drying off under the main unit.
Beside this is the spa room and the jacuzzi hot tub, which can sit 4 comfortably and 6 at a pinch. The steam room is on one side and there’s a pebbled shower and WC. To complete the relaxation there are two adult long beanbag loungers and one child sized. The spa kitchen has a small basin with sparkling and cold water on tap.
Cornish Soul is a place that commands respect and in turn it will give you all that you need to enjoy a comfortable holiday in North Cornwall whilst also taking in the amazing beaches and walks on the doorstep. It’s a short drive to Padstow and all that this enchanting fishing port has with its shops and restaurants. It’s current evolution owes much to Rick Stein. It’s well worth the visit and you can buy fish from him as well as the ubiquitous and very tasty Cornish pasty. Make sure that if you want meat then the Padstow Farm Shop is the place to go – super fresh with its own lamb and fresh vegetables as well.
